Avocado-shaped, Saint Lucia is one of the greenest and lush islands in the Caribbean. It boasts spectacular beaches surrounded by crystal clear and invitingly warm seas. Located in the Southern Caribbean, St Lucia is 4-hours flying time from New York; 3.5 hours from Miami; 8-9 hours from Europe and 5-hours from Toronto.
Saint Lucia is world renowned for some of the finest scenery in the Caribbean, including magnificent mountains and tropical vegetation. Most spectacular are the adjacent estates, Grand Bois (Big Wood) and Belle Étoile (Beautiful Star); 350 acres of combined prime fertile rain forest and agricultural land.
Currently for sale, the estates have unlimited potential for development, including hotels, tourism, scientific and environmental research and agriculture. The volcanic soil makes it especially productive for growing coffee and cocoa. The land contains a few steep gradients and deep river valleys and canyons. Elevation ranges between 400 to 1200 feet above sea level.
Approximately 3 miles from the Caribbean Sea, the estates are home to an abundant variety of plant and animal life. Vegetation consists of secondary subtropical wet forest and rain forest, with elfin woodland at the highest elevations. Exotic plants and flowers grow wild along with many colorful and aromatic tropical flowers. Its paths are also strewn with tiny bromeliads, wild orchids and mushrooms. Flamboyant trees spread shade and blossom everywhere. The estates are home to giant ferns, birds of paradise, fruits and vegetables and many other indigenous tree species. Many traditional tropical fruits and vegetables grow naturally including but not limited to, Coconuts, Bananas, Grapefruits, Oranges, Mangos, Breadfruits, Dasheens, Yams and Spicy Hot Peppers.
Indigenous wildlife includes a species of ground lizard unique to St Lucia, and the agouti and the manicou, two rabbit-like animals, common throughout the island. The estates are of particular appeal to bird watchers, hikers and nature lovers. Among the rare and beautiful birds adding color to the scene are the White Breasted Thrasher, the St. Lucia Peewee, and the St. Lucia Oriole. The Amazon versicolor parrot is another, though more elusive, inhabitant of the deep interior rainforest.
The estates are intersected by the Canaries River, forming broad fertile valleys, Grand Bois to the north and Belle Etoile to the south. Along the river are natural pools including three of Saint Lucia’s best waterfalls where you can enjoy a cool refreshing swim.
West of the estates are Gros Piton and Petit Piton, ancient, volcanic forest-covered cones which rise out of the sea on the west coast. The twin volcanic peaks are probably the most photographed mountains in the Caribbean. East is Mount Gimie, the highest peak in saint Lucia standing at 950m (3,117 ft.). South of the estate in the town of Soufriere there are vents in a volcano which exude hydrogen sulphide, steam and other gases, also boiling water pools can be seen.
